Just bought a Canon FD 800mm 5.6L, super cheap and super used. My plan is to give it some TLC to get it cleaned up and repaired, and then I'd like to convert it to a PL mount as many in our business have been known to do.
I've seen detailed How To documents on the web about converting FD to canon's EF mount, but haven't found much about converting to PL. I'd love to team up with a local machinist and try to do this myself as a learning experience, but I know there is a lot that could go wrong. If I can't find reliable information or it seems too daunting a task to do myself, any idea what it costs to do this, or reputable companies (hopefully stateside) that will perform this conversion? I know of Les Bosher in the UK, but that's about it. Any advice? Thanks! |

I know a good machinist if you really want to go down that route but you'll probably need some serious collumation and optical stuff doing too.
You might want to contact these guys http://ducloslenses.com/Duclos_Lenses/Main.html they seem to be one of the primo lens converters for doing cine-mods on lenses. I recently worked with another DoP who had a set of nikon stills lenses converted by Duclos and he loved them.

Hello.
I realize this is a bit untimely but I've just discovered and joined this forum. Have you checked out Century Optics? I purchased a FD to B-4 (Sony) mount from them and it works well. There is some enlarging on mine as it went to 2/3" chips so, depending on your camera, you may have a cropping in also. It's first rate glass. Eric |
